Robbery Opens Doors To Witness

We recently needed exit lights and a few fluorescent fixtures replaced in our church to bring the building up to city code.    Since I know absolutely nothing about light fixture installation, an electrician from my home church volunteered to help.  While making a 30 minute trip to Lowe’s for new bulbs, I left the doors to the church unlocked.  When we returned, my son found our change jug outside with some of the money poured on the ground.  I told the church that we needed to pray for person who stole it.  I began to pray that God would convict them and allow us to give them the Gospel.

Two days later on Memorial Day, a couple of church members were at my house when one of them informed me of a man walking up my driveway.  When I opened the door, he began crying and apologized for stealing from us.  Long story short, I spent two or three hours sitting in the yard under a pine tree talking to him about Jesus.  He said that he came to the church to ask for a handout.   When he came inside to talk to us, we weren’t there so he took the change jug outside and shook out just enough money to buy a beer.  He said that for two days he has been crying and that he was very sorry.  He even paid us back the money he stole!

I rejoice in many things.

  1.  That God is able to convict men of sin even when we don't know who or where they are.
  2.  That God loves men, even those society would label as useless, enough to die for them and then to take the time to draw them unto Himself!
  3.  That the man paid the money back.  :^)

I am glad that God allowed our paths to cross, but I won't be leaving the church doors unlocked, even for thirty minutes, ever again.Â
