On Saturday, several from our church were able to attend a homeschool convention by the Steve Mawell family at Titus 2 ministries. We had a wonderful time and were greatly challenged.
I apologize if this sounds like a commercial, but I would like to recommend several of their resources. I didn't want to just copy and paste the book desciptions from their site so I hope you'll take the time to check them out. You may not agree with everything, but I assure you that you will be helped. There is a wealth of information in their archive. They also have a free monthly newletter.
First, their book on Keeping Our Children's Hearts. Society tries to tell us that if we shelter our kids we will lose them. While I do not believe in being an isolationist, I do feel than most who lose their children do so because they fail to properly shelter them from the world. Next to my wife, my sons are my best friends in the world. However, that usually is the case when children are so young. I realize that we will soon be coming up on the teen years when most parents lose the hearts of their children. The lecture I attended based on this book was tremendous, timely, and very eye opening. I belive this book will be even more in depth than the lecture.
I was also able to attend a session called Preparing Sons to Provide for a Single-Income Family. Bro. Maxwell has two sons which were able to write checks and purchase their own homes from wages they'd earned. One of his sons could create a set of blueprints and submit them to the city for approval by the time he was 15 years old. His oldest son is only 29 years old, but is already debt free with a house and cars! Since I have two sons of my own, this session really grabbed my interest. This class focused as much on the need for prudency as it did on the need for a good income. Making lots of money is no guarantee that you will be financially stable. If you have sons, this book is worth reading!
Now one for the ladies. My wife purchased a book called Homeschooling with a Meek and Quiet Spirit. I didn't attend the ladies session, but my wife recommends this one. Your homeschool sessions do not have to be filled with frustration and yelling. It should be a spiritual time invested with your children. They also have several books entitled Managers of Their Homes: A Practical Guide to Daily Scheduling for Christian Homeschool Families, Managers of Their Chores: A Practical Guide to Children's Chore, Managers of Their Schools: A Practical Guide to Homeschooling, as well as several devotional books, and childrens story books.
I was blown away by the quality of these materials and wanted to share them with you. Titus 2 also has a monthly newsletter archive section filled with lots of great homeschool related articles. I hope you find them useful.
In His Service, Bro. Sims
