The members of Grace Baptist Church in Warrenton, GA never cease to amaze me. They have to be some of the most precious people God ever created. They always seem to know when we need a word of encouragement. Last week, they did it again!
Two weeks ago we enjoyed having visitors in our home from the church as well as family and friends from Alabama and South Carolina coming to see the newest family member. Some of our very considerate church members came over to cook and clean for us. Everyone was a great blessing.
Last week did not start off so good. It didn't take long after everyone left for the post-partum emotions to set in. Not only were all of the parties over and visitors gone, but Jacob went to grandma's house for a week. Our home seemed so empty, and my wife was easily saddened as many new mothers are.
I received a call on Monday from my pastor's wife, Mrs. Deborah South, asking if several of the ladies could throw a surprise baby shower for Laurie the next day. She had no idea that Laurie was feeling down, but the Lord did.
On Tuesday I went to the church to unlock the door for them to get everything ready. At lunch time I told Laurie we needed to "stop by the church to pick up the church van." When we got there, all of their cars were parked around back. As we walked in, I asked Laurie to get something from the Sunday school room. She walked down the hallway and into the classroom where she was met with a very loud "Surprise!!!" It is a good thing the baby was already here, because if they had done that to her two weeks ago he may have been born in the doorway to the Sunday school room!
They had a wonderful time and gave us many great gifts. In a year or two I may not remember a single gift we received, but I will never forget that they were willing to drive an hour and a half to surprise my sweet wife. After the party, Laurie cried again, but this time it wasn't sadness. We are so grateful to be blessed with such wonderful people in our lives.
P.S. Yes, I did pick up the church van.
